While it began as a community for psychology students conducting research, it has since expanded to support scholarship, service, and professional development.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"448\" data-end=\"687\">With over 1,150 chapters and more than 750,000 lifetime members, Psi Chi is one of the largest and most respected honor societies in the U.S. It is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and an affiliate of the APA and APS.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"915\">Psi Chi publishes <em data-start=\"707\" data-end=\"723\">Eye on Psi Chi<\/em>, a quarterly magazine highlighting member achievements, and the <em data-start=\"788\" data-end=\"831\">Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research<\/em>, which features peer-reviewed work by undergraduate, graduate, and faculty members.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"1059\">The Society\u2019s name reflects its mission: <strong data-start=\"958\" data-end=\"968\">Psyche<\/strong> (mind) represents scholarship, and <strong data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1015\">Cheires<\/strong> (hands) symbolizes fellowship and research.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-232-2\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-232-2-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-232-2-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_smcm-title panel-first-child\" data-index=\"3\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-smcm-title so-widget-smcm-title-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"smcm-section-title navy\" style=\"\"><strong>Benefits<\/strong> of Membership<\/h2><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-232-2-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-last-child\" data-index=\"4\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<ul>\n<li>receive recognition for academic excellence<\/li>\n<li>enjoy lifetime membership (the national registration fee of $55 is the only payment ever made to the national organization)<\/li>\n<li>gain access to $400,000 in awards and grants<\/li>\n<li>develop leadership skills<\/li>\n<li>network at Society conventions and build invaluable contacts<\/li>\n<li>subscribe to electronic publications<\/li>\n<li>publish research in a scholarly journal<\/li>\n<li>meets one of the requirements for entrance at the GS-7 level in numerous professional and technical occupations in the US government<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The true value of Psi Chi lies in the accomplishments of its members. Each year, more members pursue graduate study and advance in the behavioral sciences. Psi Chi alumni are well represented in the professional ranks, with many listed in the membership directories of the APA and APS\u2014clear evidence that the Society\u2019s mission is being fulfilled.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-232-3\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-232-3-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-232-3-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_smcm-title panel-first-child\" data-index=\"5\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-smcm-title so-widget-smcm-title-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t><h2 class=\"smcm-section-title navy\" style=\"\"><strong>Requirements<\/strong><\/h2><\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-232-3-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor panel-last-child\" data-index=\"6\" ><div\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\tclass=\"so-widget-sow-editor so-widget-sow-editor-base\"\n\t\t\t\n\t\t>\n<div class=\"siteorigin-widget-tinymce textwidget\">\n\t<p>Membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students who have made the study of psychology one of their major interests and who meet the minimum qualifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be enrolled as a major or minor in a psychology program (or a program psychological in nature)<\/li>\n<li>have completed at least 3 semesters or equivalent of college coursework<\/li>\n<li>have completed at least 9 semester hours (or equivalent) of psychology courses<\/li>\n<li>have earned an overall GPA that is in the top 35% of their class in general scholarship (minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale)<\/li>\n<li>have a minimum 3.0 GPA in psychology courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is no application process.
