Louis Hicks, professor of sociology, is a summer scholar awardee for the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institute on American Veterans in Society. The institute will be held in July at Virginia Tech. St. Mary’s College Alumnus to Discuss Baltimore’s ‘Food Deserts’ at “United Not Divided” Public Forum
In Baltimore, a disproportionate number of African Americans live in food deserts — 35% compared to just 8% of white Baltimoreans. Food deserts also have huge impacts on children, as almost a third of Baltimore’s school-aged children live in these areas. Read the full article in the Newsroom
