The\u00a0faculty\u00a0at St. Mary\u2019s College expects regular attendance in classes, and all students are responsible for any class work done or assigned during any absences. While high schools commonly differentiate between \u201cexcused absences\u201d and other absences, St. Mary\u2019s College does not officially distinguish between \u201cexcused\u201d and other absences.\u00a0During a regular 15-week semester, students may miss up to one week of class without penalty. For classes not on the regular schedule, such as summer, winterim, and half-semester courses,\u00a0faculty\u00a0should clearly articulate what constitutes the equivalent of one week. Beyond this, instructors\u2019 individual policies shall be in effect.\u00a0Students should identify scheduled absences as soon as possible, and work with the\u00a0faculty\u00a0member on a plan for their success.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In any case, when an absence results in a student missing an exam or an assignment deadline, the instructor\u2019s policy covering missed exams or late work shall apply. Instructors are responsible for articulating their attendance expectations in the course syllabus.
