The College does not discriminate or condone discrimination or harassment in the workplace or academic setting, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and parental status), national origin, gender identity\/expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, marital\u00a0status, physical or mental disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For purposes of this policy, harassment is defined as: (a) unwelcome conduct based on a legally protected class, including:\u00a0 race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity\/expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, marital status, physical\u00a0 or mental disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law; and (b) that is so severe or\u00a0 pervasive that it interferes with an individuals\u2019 work or academic performance or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive working environment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The College\u2019s definitions of sexual harassment and related issues may be found in the Policy Against Sexual Harassment, located on the Title IX Office website: <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/title-ix\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">http:\/\/www.smcm.edu\/title-ix<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All workplace and academic policies, programs and activities of the College are and shall be in conformity with applicable\u00a0federal and State laws on non-discrimination including, but not limited to: Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as\u00a0amended, Title IX of 1972 Education Amendments, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Vietnam Era\u00a0Veterans\u2019 Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974. The College\u2019s equal opportunity policy applies to the College\u2019s educational\u00a0policies, admission policies, scholarship and loan programs and athletic programs.
