We’ve never set a goal this high. This year, we’re aiming for 3,500 donors in just 32 hours, and we know we can get there because no one does Giving Tuesday like SMCM.
With Champions waving the banner for causes they care about, the Allan Challenge lighting up the Campus Center, and a community that rallies for our students, we have everything it takes to raise the bar higher than ever before.

Allan Wagaman '06 is a past president of the Alumni Association and one of the pioneers of Giving Tuesday at St. Mary's College of Maryland. To inspire students to get involved this year, he's giving away $2,500 for one lucky student to win for their favorite SMCM club, varsity sport, academic department, or any other official SMCM fund. What should I give to?
Whatever you enjoy most about St. Mary’s College! The St. Mary’s Fund (unrestricted fund) is our area of greatest need and supports every student, every day. You can also give to a Champion’s fund, or another cause that matters to you — from varsity teams and student clubs to scholarships and academic departments.
How can I BECOUNTED towards the goal of 3,500 donors?
It’s simple. On Monday, December 1 at 4:00 p.m. through Tuesday, December 2 at midnight (EST), make a donation of at least $10 to St. Mary’s College. Every donor counts. Then follow the excitement on this site and across social media as we work toward our biggest goal yet.
How can I give?
Most will give online through the special Giving Tuesday giving form. However, if you’re more comfortable giving by check or over the phone, you may do that too.
- By check: Make payable to “SMCM Foundation” with “Giving Tuesday - SMCM (Fund Name)” in the memo line, postmark by Tuesday, December 3, and mail to SMCM Foundation, 47645 College Drive, St. Mary’s City, MD 20686
- By phone: Call the Office of Institutional Advancement at (240) 895-4282 on Tuesday, December 2 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Where will my donation go?
Exactly where you want it to! We encourage you to consider the featured fund - the St. Mary’s Fund - however you can always give to your favorite academic department, student club, varsity team, scholarship or any of the other 400+ SMCM funds. In the end, we just want you to BECOUNTED.
How else can I get involved?
Sign up to be a Giving Tuesday Champion by November 10! Champions spread the word about causes they care about and can earn up to $5,000 for their SMCM fund of choice, plus exclusive SMCM gear.
Does this count as my annual gift?
Absolutely! The fiscal year at St. Mary’s College of Maryland runs from July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2026. Alumni who donate $100 or more will be able to register early for Alumni Weekend and secure the coveted campus housing before anyone else.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes. Gifts to the SMCM Foundation are 100% tax-deductible, as provided by law. You’ll receive a receipt upon making your online donation.
