ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT
Our jurisdiction is limited to the land, structures, streets, roadways, parking facilities,
and all other property and facilities under the control of St. Mary's College of Maryland.
The Public Safety Office includes the following staff: One sergeant - commissioned, two shift supervisors - noncommissioned, and six public safety officers - noncommissioned. Office staff includes one office associate, two staff dispatchers, and several student dispatchers.
All of our officers first attend the North Eastern Academy in New Hampshire for Campus Security
and Law Enforcement training and then one of several police academies. They also attend other
training courses offered by local law enforcement agencies. Officers are trained and certified in
CPR and first aid procedures. They conduct foot, bike, and vehicular patrols of the buildings and
the campus.
Officers that are commissioned have arrest authority. All officers enforce the regulations and
laws of the College, the state of Maryland, and the federal government.
