Filmmaking Resources

TFMS majors should familiarize themselves with the following filmmaking facilities on campus. Each provides access to equipment available for classroom use and for creative projects.

Media Center: Located on the third floor of the Baltimore Hall Library, the Media Center is equipped with VCRs, DVD/CD players, and audio cassette players for classroom use and duplication of materials, as well as a large screening room for the viewing of films. It also includes a dark room, a graphics studio, an audio/video editing and recording studio, and some study carrels equipped with audio-visual equipment. Media services personnel are available to assist students in locating equipment and in operating it safely.

Film and Media StudiesMulti-Media Center (MH 49): Located on the lower level of Montgomery Hall, the Multi-Media Center is an instructional technologies facility accommodating classes and class assignments in art/art history; theater, film, and media; English; international languages and cultures; and music. The Center functions as both a learning lab, focusing on techniques for integrating technology into the curriculum, and a ProLab for high-end digital work. The Multi-Media Center is currently equipped with 20 Apple eMac G4 workstations, 10 Dual-Processor PowerMac G4's with dual monitors, and a Mobile Lab of 10 iBook G4's that can turn any classroom in the building into a digital lab. The lab is also outfitted with a variety of peripherals for importing and exporting, including scanners, cameras, card readers, graphics tablets, and more. Theater-related software includes Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Final Cut Pro, Motion & DVD Studio Pro, among others. Use of the space is prioritized for classes, class work, or production-related work, but is open to the entire campus.

Digital Video Lab (MH 20b): The digital video lab is a full-featured editing lab that includes two advanced editing stations and a wide range of utilities for story-boarding, filming with digital video, editing, and producing professional-level DVDs. Each station is equipped with a PowerMac G5 with dual monitors, a real-color NTSC output monitor, and multiple input devices, and currently runs Final Cut Pro and the newest versions of animation and photo manipulation software. Students can produce a range of projects in the lab, from short-form interview documentaries to full-length movies with special effects. Use of the space is prioritized for classes, class work, or production-related work.
