Production Policy

TFMS supplies the resources for a diverse range of production work on stage and screen. Live performance opportunities include stage productions and dance concerts directed by faculty members, guest artists, and students, performed in a variety of spaces, including the Bruce Davis Theater (main stage), the dance studio, and the White Room. Performance roles, design, and technical Medea: A Noh Cycle Based on the Greek Mythpositions are open to all students, regardless of their majors, and auditions are regularly publicized in the on-line college Bulletin and by e-mail. Theater production seasons are formulated to maximize opportunities for working on or attending productions that represent the diversity of theatrical activities across cultures and history.

In order to ensure the continued diversity and high quality of productions on the St. Mary's campus, students who wish to participate in the department's production activities must read and abide by the guidelines set forth in related sections of this handbook. The department is always receptive to suggestions for improving its production procedures, and welcomes each student's input.

Resources in film and media production provide students access to a sophisticated array of video production technology, including the MH Multi-Media Center, which is equipped with 20 plus machines for preliminary editing and production work, and the MH digital video lab, which is a full-featured editing lab that includes two advanced editing stations and a wide range of utilities for story-boarding, filming onto digital video, editing, and producing professional-level DVDs. Each station is equipped with a PowerMac G5 with dual monitors, a real-color NTSC output monitor, and multiple input devices, and currently runs Final Cut Pro and the newest version of animation and photo manipulation software. Students can produce a range of projects in the lab, from short-form interview documentaries to full-length movies with special effects. Media Services also houses an audio and digital video editing facility for training and production.
