Community Engagement serves as the bridge between St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the Southern Maryland community. We believe that strong partnerships create meaningful opportunities for learning, service, and shared success.
- We collaborate with students, faculty, staff, community organizations, businesses, and civic leaders to promote experiential learning, professional development, volunteerism, internships, and civic participation.
- Our work is intended to be mutually beneficial. Whether we’re supporting community-engaged courses, connecting students with organizations that match their passions and career goals, or welcoming community members to campus, we are committed to creating spaces where ideas, resources, and people come together.

The Community Engagement team is part of the Office of Career Development and Community Engagement. It is led by the Director of Community Engagement and includes professional staff and student interns.

Civic Engagement & Voting
In partnership with the Center for the Study of Democracy, SMCM Government Affairs and the Multicultural Programs Office, we support programs that encourage participation in civic life. We promote respectful dialogue about current affairs; advocacy and activism on local, state, national and global issues; voter registration and education and voting in every election.
Arts Alliance
The Arts Alliance at SMCM was created to promote and support cultural and arts-related activities and programs at the College for the enrichment and enjoyment of the Southern Maryland community. The Alliance has sponsored the River Concert Series, Twain Lecture Series, and other popular programs. It also recognizes outstanding students in the arts and letters during the annual Awards Convocation. Members enjoy certain benefits, including special receptions and docent opportunities.
