About the Program
This program will be led by Dr. George Macleod, Assistant Professor of French and a CDCE staff member.
This 2-credit LEAD 211 course offering an international component over spring break will be offered during the Spring 2027 semester.
Students will enroll in a spring LEAD 211 course on campus, and fulfill contact hours for the Costa Rica LEAD 211 section abroad, over spring break. The program has robust opportunities for cultural immersion including homestays, visits such as: Parque el Libertad, Visit to Cenderos Immigrant Center, and a visit to an indigenous community.
There will also be guest lectures on research and professional ethics by a field sociologist, ecotourism, conservation & ecology by an environmental policy maker and a cross-cultural context lecture on Costa Rican Central American reality by program co-director. These experiences will benefit students from various disciplines such as: Environmental Studies, Anthropology, Marine Science, Women and Gender Studies.
All LEAD 211 courses provide hands-on learning experiences, guest lectures and learning outcomes aligned with NACE career readiness competencies. See LEAD 211: The Honors College Externship for more details.
