About the Programs
Students on the South Korea program will study at Sogang University with the support of CIS Abroad. This program includes the opportunity to directly enroll in English-taught courses at Sogang University, one of South Korea’s top universities – and one with a 40% international student population. In addition to integration into academic and dorm life at Sogang, students are also given cultural immersion and on-site support from CIS Abroad staff. Excursions in the past have included K-pop dance lessons, city tours, traditional Hanbok wearing experiences, and more!
Locations
Sogang University is located in Seoul, the capital city of the Republic of Korea (known as South Korea). The city is filled with a mix of traditional and futuristic architecture, dotted with idyllic temples, parks, and street markets. While the city has the longest subway system in the world and the fastest internet connections in the world, it also has mountain trails and five UNESCO heritage sites in the surrounding area.
Academics
Sogang University is a leading research and liberal arts university in Seoul. Local students come from the top 1% of their high school classes, and there is a 40% international student body. Park Geun-hye, the first woman president of South Korea, is an alumna!
Students will take 4-5 English-taught courses for a total of 12-15 credits, including a beginning Korean Language & Culture course.
Make sure to read the CIS Abroad program page under “Choose your courses” for details on how to accurately filter for courses taught in English and open for study abroad students at Sogang University. Make sure to click “courses for exchange students!” Though this AACSB-accredited institution is fabulous for Business, Econ, Business Admin, Finance, and more, they also offer a wide variety of STEM and social sciences.
Housing and Meals
SMCM students will live in the modern Gonzaga Hall on campus in a double occupancy room. Meal plans are not included, but there are many dining options on campus and nearby off campus.
Student Life
Students at Sogang will have access to join any student clubs or organizations, which include those with a focus on tarot card reading, start-up business, video game culture, and more! The university participates in several festivals, such as the Daedongjae Festival and Sunrise Festival, and has athletic facilities – including a climbing wall, music rooms, and multiple eateries.
