How to Apply
Students interested in applying to an international non-SMCM program of any type – short-term, long-term, internship – must still work closely with the Office of International Education to review the program. The Office is also available to help suggest accredited and affiliated program options over academic breaks.
Students will usually be permitted to participate in partner affiliate short-term programs abroad over a school break for credit. Students will be assisted and must go through the normal application process to ensure eligibility and transfer credit approval. Please note: students may still be denied permission to study abroad for credit in a location due to a high travel level advisory from the Department of State.
Students submitting a request to study on a non-partner affiliate program must submit a Non-SMCM Program Proposal Form prior to beginning their application for a non-SMCM program.
Proposals may be turned in to the Office of International Education, or e-mailed to ie@smcm.edu. Any submission must include your Academic Advisor’s signature. The following are the term deadlines, but please do submit a proposal form as soon as possible, to allow time for risk assessment and to meet your proposed program application deadlines.
Application Deadlines
| Term | Application and Proposal Due Date |
|---|---|
| Summer | April 1 |
| Fall or All Year | March 1 |
| Winter | November 1 |
| Spring | October 1 |
Please note that all programs have their own external deadlines for admission to the programs. All students going on a semester-long non-SMCM program will be charged a $350 fee to hold their place at SMCM and cover additional support costs.
Affiliated Providers
Please note that only federal student aid is transferable to non-SMCM programs. State and SMCM aid cannot be applied to non-SMCM programs.
