When he approaches Elizabeth Sawyer, an outcast everyone says is a witch, she is surprisingly difficult to persuade, and he is forced to return to her cottage again and again. Meanwhile, the shy Morris-dancer son of the town’s aging patriarch, a young and ambitious working-class man named Frank, and the patriarch’s servant named Winnifred find their lives turned upside down as the devil’s offer forces them to navigate their own deepest desires. Jen Silverman’s comic riff on the Jacobian play The Witch of Edmonton asks us to consider where we find hope when everything has become a transaction and people are cast out from community.

THE WOLVES by Sarah DeLappe drops us onto the turf with a competitive girls’ soccer team as they stretch, sweat, joke, fight, and figure out who they are—and who they want to become. SMCM’s Spring 2027 production will be an athletic, high-energy ensemble experience that blurs the line between sport and performance, asking its actors to train, move, and play together as a real team. Directed by Diego Villada, The Wolves is a story about the people beside us when life gets difficult—and what it takes to keep moving forward.
