Payroll Highlights for FY 2012

There are several important pay date related occurrences that we will see over the next fiscal year, particularly over the next few pay periods. Below is a highlight of payroll occurrences to take notice of:

  • Pay date 7/06/2011 had no health benefit deductions.
  • Pay date 7/20/2011 is the 1st pay date without salary and service reductions. Fiscal Year 2012 (7/1/2011 – 6/30/2012) health insurance rates become effective.
  • Pay date 8/03/2011 will include the one-time $750 bonus for eligible employees.
  • Pay date 8/17/2011 is the 1st “normal” check of the fiscal year; also the first faculty pay of the new academic year.
  • Fiscal Year 2012 is a leap year (February 29, 2012).
  • Fiscal Year 2012 will have two months with three pay dates, August 2011 and February 2012.
  • Faculty contracts for Fiscal Year 2012 will be paid over 27 pay periods. This occurs once every 10 – 11 years due to additional days in the fiscal year.
  • Pay date 1/04/2012 will have no health benefit deductions.
If you have any questions regarding payroll or the above mentioned occurrences, please contact the Office of Human Resources at extension 4309. Thank you.

Employee Address Data

All employees need to maintain up to date address information for timely distribution of their Annual Wage and Tax Statement (W-2 form). Request to add or correct addresses must be received at Central Payroll Bureau in Annapolis by December 1, 2011, to assure inclusion on the 2011 W-2 Wage and Tax Statements.

Addresses may be updated either online via “POSC” or by hard copy. A payroll address form may be downloaded from our website or central payroll bureau web site.

To expedite an address change, employees should go to the central payroll bureau web site and sign on to “POSC”. This online service allows employees to submit their updated address and have it processed faster than using a hard copy. Be sure to update your address with the office of human resources as well.

Reduction of Annual Leave Hours for Non-Bargaining Unit Employees

As you may recall, in December 2008, it was announced that the annual leave carryover maximum will be reduced to 160 hours, effective July 1, 2010. This change only applies to employees who are not part of the collective bargaining unit. It is very important to plan now for annual leave usage for the current fiscal year to minimize the potential of annual leave loss. Because of the number of individuals impacted by the annual leave reduction, there will be a one-time rollover of annual leave held in excess of the 160 hour cap into sick leave. If you have any questions regarding the reduction of the annual leave maximum, please contact the Office of Human Resources at extension 4309.
