Office of Human Resources / Jobs / Assistant Professor of Psychology – Developmental

Assistant Professor of Psychology – Developmental

St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the national public honors college, is accepting applications for a TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY to begin August 2021.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctorate in Developmental Psychology or a related field (Ph.D. preferred, ABD acceptable) and be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching.  Teaching responsibilities will include general courses in the major (e.g., Intro to Psychology, Research Design and Analysis), core courses in developmental psychology, and upper-level topics courses in one’s area of specialization. A traditional course load is 3 courses per semester, although after the first year 1 course is typically dedicated to the supervision of senior thesis projects. The development of an active research program involving undergraduates is expected, and a commitment to culturally competent teaching/mentoring and fostering inclusive and equitable learning environments is essential.

The department of 14 faculty supports the psychology major, which is among the largest at the College.  St. Mary’s College is committed to excellence in teaching and in undergraduate research. More than 73% of psychology majors pursue advanced degrees upon graduating.

Non-sectarian since its founding, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a public Carnegie Baccalaureate, Arts and Sciences institution located in St. Mary's City, 70 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., has been designated a national public honors college. With selective admissions policies, academically talented students, and a rigorous curriculum, we offer a small college experience similar to that found at exceptional private colleges. St. Mary’s faculty benefit from a comprehensive program of support for scholarship, research, travel, and curriculum development, including course releases for pre-tenure faculty and leaves for tenured faculty. The quality of life is enhanced by the recreational opportunities of the Chesapeake region and by our proximity to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore.

St. Mary’s College embodies diversity and inclusion in its mission. We create an environment that recognizes the value of individual and group differences and we encourage inquiries from applicants who will contribute to our cultural and racial/ethnic diversity. Application materials should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae (including email address), statement of teaching philosophy, statement of research interests, evidence of teaching effectiveness (if available), and a statement explaining how the candidate’s teaching at the College will contribute to a culture of inclusion and campus diversity. Applicants should also arrange for the submission of three confidential letters of recommendation. Applicants can request confidential letters through their Interfolio Dossier account, and letters may be uploaded for free by the letter writer directly to our Interfolio-hosted account for committee review.  Applications are being accepted online at: apply.interfolio.com/78972.  Questions may be directed to Dr. Jennifer Tickle, Psychology Department Chair.

Review of applications will begin on October 15, 2020, and continue until the position is filled.  Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.  St. Mary’s College of Maryland is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.
