| Jeffrey Lamar Coleman received his B.A. in Communications, with an emphasis in journalism and advertising, from Winthrop University, his M.F.A. in Creative Writing, with an emphasis in poetry, from Arizona State University, and his Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of New Mexico. He is also the author of Spirits Distilled: Poems, published by Red Hen Press. His teaching interests include contemporary multicultural American literature, African-American literature, creative writing and literature of the human condition. His poetry and essays have appeared in several publications, including Blue Mesa Review, Black Bear Review, Brilliant Corners: A Journal of Jazz and Literature, Weavings 2000 and Critical Essays on Alice Walker. With support from the Maryland Humanities Council, he is a frequent guest lecturer throughout the state and country on the history and poetry of the American Civil Rights Movement. |
