Proposals and Awards
The Faculty Committee for Internationalization invites faculty to submit proposals for travel abroad that will lead to new study tour programs or will maintain or enhance existing study abroad programs. In most years, there will be two rounds of proposals: the first during the fall semester and the second in the spring to award any remaining funds.
The proposal would include:
- the semester-abroad program or study tour to be investigated;
- the rationale for SMCM considering the proposed program;
- the planned activities of the faculty traveler, including itinerary and any in-country contacts to be made with individuals or with institutions;
- an itemized budget, including airfare, accommodations, meals, land transportation, cell phone use, admission fees to sites, guiding services, gratuities, etc. Please provide documentation for large expenses, such as print-outs from web pages, copies of e-mailed quotes, and the like. Undocumented estimations of large expenses are not helpful to a proposal. (Ensure that estimates are for proposed time of travel, not for the time of year at which the proposal is being made.)
Reports
If your proposal is funded, you will be required to write a post-trip report on the results of your trip (what you have found out, and your plan for developing a study tour proposal).
Accessing Award Funds
You may work with the fiscal associates in your academic building or with the IE Office to submit travel and expense report forms.
