Peer Mentors

CORE Peer Mentors help plan seminars, facilitate “5th Hour” events, and provide an advanced student perspective within the Seminars. They receive academic credit by concurrently enrolling in CORE401: Peer Mentoring Practicum.

How to Apply:

Three positions available; call for applications will go out in February.

Applications must include:

• A letter that details your interest
• Your class standing (Junior or Senior)
• Overall GPA
• Why you think they would be a good peer mentor
• Resume
• The name of one faculty reference
• The section or sections of the First Year Seminar for which you would want to be considered

Like the CORE Peer Mentors, the DB Peer Mentors help lead classroom discussions and provide an advanced student perspective within seminars; however, they also provide crucial social support, being Scholars who have themselves just completed their first year at St. Mary’s College. They receive academic credit by concurrently enrolling in DBSP301: DeSousa-Brent Mentor I and DBSP302: DeSousa-Brent Mentor II.

How to Apply:

Requirements:

• Sophomore standing
• Must be a St. Mary’s College full-time student
• Good academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA)
• Knowledgeable about the campus
• Have strong oral and written communication skills
• Enthusiastic about St. Mary’s College

Summer mentors help with:

• Scholar recruitment
• Summer Light Programming (including fall registration and transportation)
• Event hosting
• Summer mentors receive training, housing, a meal plan, and a modest stipend.

Fifteen positions available; call for applications will go out in February.

Requirements:

• Must be a St. Mary’s College full-time student
• Good Academic standing (minimum 2.5 GPA)
• Knowledgeable about the campus
• Have strong oral and written communication skills
• Enthusiastic about St. Mary’s College
