The preferred candidate will possess an interest in student activities, special educational events and community outreach. This student will work under the direction of the Center’s, Program Assistant to assist in update and design to Facebook, managing mailing lists, website redesign and management. Students will also gain experience in event publicity and assist in developing student group involvement for all programs and lectures. Student will also learn about program planning and the management of events that bring in high-level policy makers and government officials throughout the world to participate in conferences and discussions on politics, technology and U.S Defense policy. These events offer excellent networking opportunities for CSD interns and SMCM student volunteers. The Center is able to provide a unique real world work experience to student interns by proper use of responsibility of projects, tasks and time management skills under minimal supervision.
The Center Program Intern will help promote and research special educational events and community activities. The Center provides support for the democracy studies minor at St. Mary’s College and funds summer internship offerings in state, federal and local government service. The Center Intern will also help with the promotion of citizen engagement in the political process by supporting student organizations that advocate for student participation in elections and government.
Qualifications and unique application instructions:
The student should be dependable, have strong organizational skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, and peers. Ideally this student should have experience with Cascade web development, Microsoft publisher as well as good research and analytical skills. Experience with Adobe InDesign a plus.
