What is the Course Schedule Matrix?
This matrix defines our class and lab meeting schedules. The matrix has blocks of open “Community Time” on T/R and all- campus “Meeting Times” M/W/F when no classes are scheduled. This means space in the matrix to meet, get lunch, go to office hours, etc. Standing, repeated academic meetings (labs, conferences, classes) that involve required student attendance may not be scheduled during Community Time.
Class and Lab Meeting Schedule Overview
What is Engaged Learning (EL)?
EL includes extra learning experiences outside of regular class time. These activities are designed to be just as meaningful and challenging as in-class learning. Examples include:
- Writing a short reflection paper
- Posting on a discussion board
- Watching a film and answering questions
- Reviewing data with lab partners
- Meeting with your professor to discuss a project
While EL might feel similar to homework, it is separate from regular assignments and is meant to deepen your learning.

Labs and Studio Courses
Lab sections meet once a week for 3–4 hours. These may or may not carry extra credits. Art courses include studio time as part of their class schedule.
Open Times in the Weekly Schedule
The schedule includes open “Community Time” on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and “Meeting Time” on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. No classes are held during these times so students can:
- Attend office hours
- Eat lunch
- Go to meetings or events
Required class meetings, labs, or academic sessions may not be scheduled during Community Time.
