Dear Future Alum,
Welcome to St. Mary’s College of Maryland! We’re excited to have you as part of our community, and we look forward to adding you to the ranks of the Alumni Association in a few short years.
You have elected to study at one of the most beautiful and unique places in the United States and we know you will take advantage of it. St. Mary’s was founded as a “living monument” to the birth of Maryland, preserving the rich history of Maryland’s first capital, St. Mary’s City. As a member of the St. Mary’s College of Maryland community, you are now a part of this living monument and its ideals of respect, open-mindedness, tolerance, and understanding.
Each of us derives personal meaning out of our own St. Mary’s experience and I have no doubt that you will as well. The friendships that you make here will last a lifetime and will help you navigate whatever comes your way. Take advantage of this opportunity to explore current and new interests while you are here – participate in campus life, study abroad, complete an internship – you never know where these experiences will lead you. Study hard, but ensure that you take time to appreciate everything that the campus and community have to offer. Embrace “The St. Mary’s Way” and let it serve as a compass during your time here, and after. Just don’t tell your birthdate to your friends – unless you want to take a dip in the pond!
St. Mary’s College of Maryland is a place of immense meaning to all alumni who came before you and we have all shaped the institution in our own way; we are excited that you will add your own meaning to the institution. The breadth of experience that you will gain by taking advantage of the opportunities at St. Mary’s will leave you well prepared for the rest of your life. We trust that you will faithfully carry forward the ethos and traditions of the College outlined in “The St. Mary’s Way,” and we look forward to welcoming you into the Alumni Association at your graduation.
All the best,
Allan Wagaman ’06
