Each student will plan an individual program with an adviser in order to arrive at a combination of courses that will both meet the requirements for the major and be most meaningful for the student’s goals and interests.
The English faculty strongly recommend that you obtain an adviser from among the faculty in the your area of concentration by the beginning of your junior year.
The following model is suggested as a possible basic program to satisfy the above requirements:
- First Year:
ENGL 284 and 285, and a lower-level elective such as ENGL 106, 130, 201, 270, or 235 - Second Year:
ENGL 204 and 304, and either a lower-level or an upper-level elective such as ENGL 355, 365, 380, 390, 391, or 395 - Third Year:
A 400-level seminar, and two upper-level electives - Fourth Year:
A senior capstone experience (either a St. Mary’s Project, ENGL 493/494, or two 300- or 400- level English courses)
