Helpful Resources for both “Parties”
Mandatory Reporters
Faculty, staff, coaches, Public Safety, Resident Assistants (RAs), Residence Hall Coordinators (RHCs), etc., have been identified as mandated reporters under Federal Law.
When you make a report to a mandatory reporter, the person you are speaking with is obligated to share the details of the situation with Title IX Coordinator Michelle Carter. As described above, you still control how you want to proceed.
You can make a report here.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland is committed to helping create a safe and open learning environment for all students. If you (or someone you know) have experienced any form of sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, or stalking, know that help and support are available.
The College strongly encourages all community members to take action, seek support, and report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Office. Under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, I must disclose information about such misconduct to the Title IX Office.
If you would like to talk to a confidential employee who does not have this reporting responsibility, you can contact SMCM Wellness Center or Health Services at (240) 895-4289.
For more information about reporting options and resources at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the community, please visit the Office of Title IX Compliance and Training.
On-Campus Confidential Resources
Information shared with the below resources will remain confidential. It will not be shared with the College or anyone else without the express permission of the individual seeking services unless maintaining such confidentiality would harm oneself or others.
When a report involves suspected abuse of a minor under 18, these confidential resources are required by Maryland law and the College’s Child Abuse Reporting Policy to notify child protective services and/or local law enforcement. In these situations, they must also notify the Title IX Coordinator that such a report has been made.
