The Mathematics program at St. Mary’s introduces students to the complex world of mathematics.
Without mathematics, there would be little of the modern world we now enjoy. Electronics would be near nonexistent, and technology would be limited. Architecture would be simple, space exploration far beyond our capability, and objects like the radio, television, train, and computer would not be around. The internet, e-mail, electric heat and light, advanced physics, biology, and modern medicine would also not exist.
For those of the physical and social sciences, our program acquaints students with the tools necessary to further their studies. For those within the major, we provide a solid knowledge and understanding of abstract mathematics as well as some of its applications, thus preparing them for further studies, for teaching careers, and for future careers in government, business, or industry.
