Ben Click began teaching (and learning from) students in 1981. Since that time he has taught a variety of courses in writing, rhetoric, literature, and humor. As the director of the St. Mary's College Writing Center, Ben is interested in how students develop as writers, particularly in how one-on-one and small-group conversation with other writers can enhance that development. His research explores how humor in fiction constructs and promotes social identities and ideologies, and how rhetorical training of particular authors contributed to popular humor writing in the 19th century. He received a B.A. and M.A. in English from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Ph.D. in English from Penn State University. He enjoys playing and listening to blues, and watching and reading about baseball. But mostly he enjoys the laughter and company of his wife and two daughters.
