The Orientation Team makes Orientation tick! The Orientation Team, or OTeam, work beginning in January to recruit student leaders to lead campus through our Orientation programs. From recruiting OTeamers, to scheduling Seahawk Service Day throughout the county, to organizing OTeam training with our campus partners, the Orientation Core and their OTeam make things happen!
Our Orientation Team is comprised of three layers, and four positions:
• Orientation Core (OCore): These students apply for the OCore position in October prior to the year of Orientation. They work as Peer Advisors during Winter Orientation. In January, the OChairs work with the Coordinator of Student Engagement to recruit and select the rest of the OTeam. Once selected, OCore works throughout the summer to help develop Orientation Team training and some Fall Orientation programming. If you call our New Student Information Line, you’ll likely speak to an OCore member!
• Orientation Staff (OStaff/OStaffers): OStaff is responsible for making Fall Orientation tick. In addition to running our Social Media during the program, they also help with set up, tear down, crowd control, and program success from event to event. Without our OStaffers, Orientation would be nothing! Along with Orientation Leaders, they enter Fall Orientation after a crash course in campus leadership, self-discovery, risk management, and much more. Through their professional training, they learn not only about themselves as leaders, but how to best support their students not only during Orientation, but throughout each new students entire college career.
• Orientation Leaders (OLs): OLs are responsible for a small group of incoming students throughout Orientation. Along with OStaff, they enter Fall Orientation after a Crash Course in campus leadership, self-discovery, risk management, and much more. These students develop close mentoring relationships with the students in their Orientation Group. Through their professional training, they learn not only about themselves as leaders, but how incoming students develop, and how to best support their students not only during Orientation, but throughout each new students entire college career.
