Scholarships

We have partnered with Reviewr to help process and evaluate submissions to the three alumni scholarships outlined below. All requested materials must be submitted through the online application form by midnight on April 1 to be considered for a scholarship. Decisions will be announced on or before July 1.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE APRIL 1

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Alumni Association awards three scholarships annually to recognize exceptional members within the alumni community – the Alumni Legacy Scholarship, the Don Stabile Alumni Post-Graduate Scholarship, and the Don Stabile Alumni Doctoral Scholarship. Past awardees have displayed outstanding service in their communities and exemplary work throughout their academic and professional careers.

Alumni Legacy Scholarship
Description

Established by the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Alumni Association, the Alumni Legacy Scholarship is awarded annually to two incoming or current students related to an alum of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. This $2,000 scholarship is awarded based on a combination of financial need, academic merit, and co-curricular involvements. The scholarship is automatically renewed for up to three years as long as the recipient maintains the established academic standards outlined in the Conditions of the Scholarship and continues as a degree-seeking student at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Award

The $2,000 scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s SMCM account in two equal installments ($1,000 per semester) at the beginning of each fall and spring semester.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be accepted for admission as degree-seeking candidates to St. Mary’s College of Maryland
  • Applicants must be related to an alum of St. Mary’s College of Maryland (or its predecessor schools) in one of the following ways: a child, grandchild, or step-child
Conditions
  • Applicants must allow the Scholarship Committee to use information submitted to the Office of Admission and the Office of Student Financial Assistance
  • Recipients must return the “Intent to Accept Award” form with signature by July 30. (The award check will not be sent until this is received.)
  • Recipients must maintain a course load of at least 12 credit hours per semester and a 3.0 semester GPA
    • If a recipient fails to meet these requirements, they will be placed on scholarship probation
    • If the recipient’s grades do not improve to at least a 3.0 GPA in each subsequent semester, funding will be withdrawn and the Alumni Legacy Scholarship will be forfeited
Don Stabile Alumni Post-Graduate Scholarship
Description

Established in 2013, the Don Stabile Alumni Post-Graduate Scholarship is awarded annually to one graduating student or alum pursuing graduate studies. The $2,500 scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award. However, former awardees may receive more than one award by reapplying in subsequent years. In addition, an applicant who does not receive an award one year may apply for an award in subsequent years.

Award

The $2,500 award check will be mailed after the conditions outlined below are met, including the submission of transcript(s) and “Intent to Accept Award” form.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be a degree-holding alumna/us from St. Mary’s College of Maryland (or one of its predecessor schools), or a graduating senior from St. Mary’s College of Maryland
  • Applicants must be applying to, or enrolled in, a full-time, degree-seeking post-graduate program at any accredited college or university in the United States or a recognized college or university abroad
Conditions
  • Recipients must return the “Intent to Accept Award” form with signature by July 30. (The award check will not be sent until this is received.)
  • Recipients must submit transcripts from SMCM and any post-SMCM institutions to the Office of Alumni Relations, if applicable. (The award check will not be sent until this is received.)
  • Recipients must return the full award to the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Foundation if they do not finish out the academic year at their post-graduate institution.
Don Stabile Alumni Doctoral Scholarship
Description

Established in 2011, the Don Stabile Alumni Doctoral Scholarship is awarded annually to one graduating student or alumna/us who pursues a Ph.D. in one of the liberal arts disciplines. The $5,000 scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award. However, former awardees may receive more than one award by reapplying in subsequent years. In addition, an applicant who does not receive an award one year may apply for an award in subsequent years.

Award

The $5,000 award check will be mailed after the conditions outlined below are met, including the submission of transcript(s) and “Intent to Accept Award” form.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be a degree-holding alumna/us from St. Mary’s College of Maryland (or one of its predecessor schools), or a graduating senior from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
  • Applicants must be applying to, or enrolled in, a full-time, degree-seeking doctoral program focused on scholarly research at any accredited college or university in the United States or a recognized college or university abroad (certificate programs, not applicable).
  • Students applying to, or currently enrolled in, medical school, law school or pursuing a doctorate in education are not eligible for this award, but are invited to apply for the Alumni Post-Graduate Scholarship.
