Matt Hollis ‘03 both harnesses and celebrates the allure of nature in his elaborate faux-floral assemblages that express a devout obsession with all things organic who earned a BA in Art from SMCM in 2003. His work plays with notions of the power that the natural world holds over the human psyche and uses flowers to ceremoniously celebrate themselves. He has exhibited works ranging from wall hangings to large-scale installations in numerous galleries throughout the DC area. One opportunity had him create costumes and sculptural set pieces for an elaborate dance performance. He recently received a grant from the DC Commission of Arts and Humanities to travel to France for an artistic research trip sponsored by Transformer Gallery. Hollis will give an art.st talk as part of the Brown Bag Lunchtime Talks on January 26, 12-1pm, Glendening Annex; http://www.enoughforall.com
