Director of Student Financial Assistance
St. Mary's College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary's City is accepting resumes for the position of Director of Student Financial Assistance. The Director serves as the school’s authority on federal aid programs and provides leadership to all aspects of the college’s student aid programs. The director leads and manages staff in awarding and monitoring federal, State, private and College programs; ensures compliance for all programs; and controls and manages fund allocations. This position requires a great deal of interaction with people and a thorough knowledge of the use of the College’s relational database. The Director reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and is responsible for the administration of approximately $12 million in federal, private and institutional financial aid to students.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred. Five to seven years of experience as a financial aid administrator, preferably as a director or associate director, with a thorough knowledge of federal and state regulations and be knowledgeable about current trends in financing higher education; exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, and strong internal and external leadership abilities with an uncompromising commitment to student service and student advocacy. Must have strong attention to detail and an ability to multi-task effectively; commitment to the mission of the College to provide access to a diverse population of students, including an understanding of the needs of first-generation college students; strong analytical and quantitative skills are required, advanced experience with relational databases and Excel are preferred; some accounting knowledge or skills and counseling skills required for sensitive treatment of confidential family information; ability to deal effectively and tactfully with students, parents, faculty, staff and the public; proven ability to deal with diverse populations; willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule outside of business hours, as assigned. Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered. Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check. The salary range is $100,000-$110,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
