Assistant Professor of Spanish
The Department of International Languages and Cultures at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, The National Public Honors College, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish beginning August 2026. Position expectations include maintaining an active research agenda, teaching three undergraduate courses per semester at all levels—mainly taught in Spanish, academic student advising, directing student capstone projects, and engaging in service to the Department and the College. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to develop an array of courses that contribute to the undergraduate major in Spanish and our College’s language requirement.
The Department of International Languages and Cultures includes programming in Spanish, French, and Chinese. Spanish boasts a dynamic, collegial, nationally and internationally recognized faculty with interests in Transnational Media Studies, Indigenous Studies, Latinx Studies, Creative Writing, and Community Service Learning.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hand at time of hire in Spanish or a related field and be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Applicants with expertise in Spanish Linguistics, US Spanish for Latinx populations, Latinx Studies, Afro-Latinx Studies, or Afro-Caribbean Studies are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a contemporary focus and a secondary investment in Spanish language pedagogy whose teaching practice incorporates task-based learning, heritage language instruction, intercultural competence, multiliteracies approaches, technology-enhanced learning, or other innovative and current methodologies in language instruction are preferred. The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $77,000 based on the candidate’s qualifications.
