Arvind Srinivasan ’17 has won a prestigious Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship from the Department of Defense. The scholarship covers tuition and expenses. It also provides a summer research internship and employment placement after graduation.
Last summer, Arvind worked in the NAWCAD atomic physics at Patuxent River Naval Air Station, as part of the collaboration between NAWCAD scientists and SMCM Physics faculty and students. His work was funded by a grant to SMCM from the Office of Naval Research. In Spring 2015, he began his SMP in the lab on base (as a sophomore). This summer, he is continuing his work in the lab on base with funding from the Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP). After that, the SMART Scholarship will pay for him to continue to intern at NAWCAD. After graduation, it will translate into guaranteed employment there.
Arvind is a Nitze Scholar and is on the tennis team. He is double majoring in physics and math, and he is deciding whether to get a third major or a minor in philosophy.
