Information for transfer students planning to major in psychology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland
General Requirements
All transfer students must follow St. Mary’s College of Maryland transfer procedures and seek official approval from the psychology department chair and the Office of the Registrar.

General Psychology Requirements
Transfers from two-year, community colleges:
Successful completion (C- or better) of any or all of these courses will make it easier to complete the psychology major at SMCM. Course selections may vary among community colleges.
- General/Introduction to Psychology (transfers in as PSYC 101 and counts towards the social and behavioral sciences requirement of the SMCM LEAD Curriculum Core Exploration track; an Advanced Placement score of 4 or 5 also satisfies PSYC 101)
- Cognitive Psychology (transfers in as PSYC 221)
- Cultural Psychology (transfers in as PSYC 263)
- Human Development/Lifespan (transfers in as PSYC 230)
- Physiological and Sensory Psychology (may transfer in as PSYC 235)
- Social Psychology (transfers in as PSYC 250)
Please note that while community colleges may offer courses with names similar to those of 300 and 400-level psychology courses at SMCM (e.g., Infant & Child Development, Psychopathology they may transfer in as 200-level topics courses in the major or as extra lower-division credits.
Transfers from four-year institutions:
